The Social Justice DiscoTech is a one-day social justice-focused skill-sharing extravaganza featuring numerous design and technology discovery stations. Held at the Bento Miso Collaborative Workspace in Toronto, funds raised through the event will support the Future Design Lab at AMC2014.
Social Justice DiscoTech
The Social Justice DiscoTech will be devoted to hands-on, DIY, Do It Together, collaborative design, making and hacking, hardware and software collaboration stations and skill-shares. Bring your ideas for a better world and we’ll show you how to:
- Tackle a problem using design thinking
- Design your own poster in Photoshop
- Map a community’s stories and resources
- AND MORE —- > Note these may/will change and expand- it is based on proposals we receive and what skills folks are willing to share.
The DiscoTech Model
The DiscoTech (short for "Discovering Technology") event was inspired by the Allied Media Conference Media Lab and developed by the Detroit Digital Justice Coalition as a space to learn about the impact and possibilities of technology within our communities. The DiscoTech model has spread beyond Detroit, through sessions at the Allied Media Conference and through the publication of the "How To DiscoTech" zine.
Support the Future Design Lab at AMC2014
What should our future look like? Throughout the AMC, we reimagine and reinvent our collective worlds as more just and sustainable places. The Future Design Lab will be a space to map out these alternative visions of the future and begin making them into realities. We will experiment with speculative design and technology to show with clarity and elegance how we get from where we are to where we want to be.
