Michigan Radio recently broadcast an excellent radio story on how Detroit Future Schools is making school more human. This piece provides a peek into how DFS is integrating media, technology, and art into core subject matter, from social studies to math, while supporting students in developing positive social values and characteristics.
The reason Detroit Future Schools uses digital media "is that we really believe that once you’re a creator rather than a consumer of media, you’re actually starting to imagine the world you want to make happen and make possible," says DFS teaching artist Nathaniel Mullen.
Zak Rosen, the radio journalist who produced this story, is currently following the story of the the James and Grace Lee Boggs School and the journey of all the people involved in making this school a success story. On Zak Rosen’s soundcloud, you can listen to additional stories about the Boggs School, which deal with a range of topics including the beginnings of the school and the topic of ”Farting, Fighting and Figuring out how to Discipline”
Detroit Future Schools is a sponsored project of Allied Media Projects. Please consider supporting DFS with a sustainer contribution here.
