DFM selected as finalist in Global Prize for Collaborative Social Justice Leadership

Congratulations to Detroit Future Media. DFM has been selected as a finalist for the $25,000 Kalamazoo College Global Prize for Collaborative Social Justice Leadership.

Detroit Future Media is a Detroit-based art and media organizing program that seeks community transformation via collaborative media projects that confront injustice.

Here is the announcement of the selection:

The Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership at Kalamazoo College is pleased to announce 15 finalists for the $25,000 Kalamazoo College Global Prize and 3 finalists for its $5,000 Southwest Michigan regional social justice leadership award.

Applicants submitted 8-10 minute videos and were chosen from a field of 188 entries that spanned 23 nations and 25 states within the US. Fifty-one jurors consisting of Kalamazoo College faculty, staff and students along with regional, national and global social justice leaders evaluated each entry; all applications were reviewed by two jurors.

Projects include Detroit Future Media, immigration reform, efforts to end the stigma of HIV/Aids in Rwanda and an economic justice project led by Hungary's homeless population.

In all, eight U.S. cities and 10 countries are represented among the finalists, Kalamazoo College said. Two Kalamazoo alumni also number among the finalists.
