Calling all performers, healers, dancers, actors, visionaries, martial artists, space travelers, time bandits, twerkers, and body werkers!
The Allied Media Conference is five months away and we are looking for people to propose sessions, workshops, performances, and activities for the 2013 Movement//Movement Dance & Performance Practice Space.
WHAT IS MOVEMENT//MOVEMENT?
Our bodies are maps of our memories, our lineage, our scars, our beauty, the conditions we work and breathe under, our minds. The Movement//Movement space will explore the ways we use our bodies (from the dance floor to the stage to our paths down the sidewalk) to transform our environments, our communities, and ourselves.
The development and practice of this transformation requires safe facilitation, open space, and lots of playtime. This practice space will be a blend of technique-based workshops of all kinds; open studio time where people can practice, improvise, and expand on what they learn; collaborative workshops with other AMC tracks; and multidisciplinary performance time.
Folks will leave the conference with new connections to their hearts, bones, spirits and muscles. We will return home with concrete strategies for using dance and performance in our communities, campaigns, and movements.
For the three days of the AMC (June 20-23) we will have a dedicated space dedicated exclusively to the practice of exploring movement as a form of embodiment, healing, community building, art/media making, and social transformation. It is a time to practice the galaxy we want to inhabit.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
We are seeking proposals for any of the above kinds of activities that you want to facilitate or coordinate.
From vogue technique to contact improv to theater of the oppressed to wheelchair dance, these sessions should:
- promote awareness, agency, and power centered in the body.
- be empathetic and responsive to the diversity of bodies and needs of AMC participants (physical, emotional, gender accessible, and trigger responsive).
- broaden/ deepen our understanding of the integral nature of movement/dance/ performance in the transformation of society.
- foster cross-collaboration between various artforms.
- create a space for participants to discover and/or explore the expansiveness of their bodies, minds, and spirits (extension, flexibility, strength/confidence, openness, projection, trust).
We strongly encourage Women, People of Color, Youth, Elders, Queer and Trans communities to submit proposals.
When you submit your proposal you will also let us know your needs for funds/scholarships for registration, housing, and travel. If your proposal is accepted we will do our best to support your involvement!
Please forward this to all your movement/theater/performance peeps! If you have any questions, contact us. And if you want to contribute, but aren't sure how, PLEASE drop us a line.
Proposals are due March 8, 2013 at midnight.
You may post comments or questions for the organizers on the Movement//Movement discussion page on AMPtalk.
