Call for Session Proposals: I ♥ Print Media

Calling all writers, editors, zine-makers, print-designers, and/or comic strip drawers, I ♥ Print Media is for you! If you are a creative organizer, activist, or dreamer that wishes you could magically print out ideas straight from your brain, then this Allied Media Conference track is for you.

If your community loves or could benefit from print media, or if you simply love the feeling of holding something created by yourself and/or others in your hands, then this is the track for you!

In this track, we will confront the narrative that print is dying while considering the role of print in our changing society. Print can be passed from one hand to the next regardless of a person's access to technology or Internet know-how.

Throughout history social movements have utilized print as an essential part of spreading their message to energize, educate, and empower communities. The I ♥ Print Media track will provide space for media rabble rousers committed to the role of print media in our increasingly digital world to learn, network, and build together.

We are seeking proposals that:

  • Share skills of storytelling, writing, editing, layout, and planning print media projects, and offer opportunities to practice those skills in making an AMC print publication.
  • Piece together the history of print and social justice movements and print’s future in a hegemonically digital world.
  • Build an analysis of how and where print is faltering so we can better re-imagine the print landscape for a sustainable future.
  • Have conversations about the challenges left media faces in both print and digital forms and collaborate on ways to build on the synergy between print and digital media.

Print is dead? Long live print!

Proposals are due March 8, 2013 at midnight.

You may post comments or questions for the organizers on the I ♥ Print Media discussion page on AMPtalk.
