AMP Blog: Rida Institute
Detroit Future Schools' mission is to humanize education in Detroit. We believe that in order to transform our school system, we as educators must begin by transforming our own practices and by designing our classrooms to nurture the transformative leadership of our students.
Calling all educators! Detroit Future Schools is now accepting applications for the Rida Institute, a three day training and curriculum planning retreat taking place August 19-21 in Detroit. The Institute will introduce teachers to the “Rida Framework” one of Detroit Future School’s central tools for humanizing schooling.
"How do you tap into students’ resiliency and channel their personal frustration and dissatisfaction against the social system that undermines their humanity?"
Detroit Future Schools invites all educators, youth, parents and community members to join us for two important conversations about the purpose of education and the practice of transforming classrooms for a more just, creative, and collaborative world. These panels will be taking place in conjunction with the Detroit Future Schools Rida Institute.
As we gear up to host the DFS Rida Institute in February 2014, we are reflecting on the incredible work for transformative education happening all across the country. We have been thrilled to see how much Detroit Future Schools has to offer and how much we have to learn from other communities. Detroit Future Schools has presented at several education conferences at which we’ve had the opportunity to learn about democratic, youth-centered, and social justice oriented education work taking place across the country.
