Commotion Deployment Report: Allied Media Conference 2012

In a recent blog post, the Open Technology Institute reports on their test deployment of the Commotion wireless networking tool at last year's Allied Media Conference. Commotion is an open-source communication tool that uses mobile phones, computers, and other wireless devices to create decentralized mesh networks.

AMP partners with the Open Technology Institute to launch Digital Stewards Program

Communication is a fundamental human right. The Digital Stewards Program is an effort to actualize that right at the neighborhood-level in Detroit. This 10-week training, already underway, prepares teams of community organizers, people with construction skills and techies to design and deploy communications infrastructure with a commitment to the Detroit Digital Justice Principles.

As a member of the Detroit Digital Justice Coalition, Allied Media Projects has been supporting the construction of community wireless networks in several Detroit neighborhoods.  Last week, this work was highlighted in a great article by Jamilah King for Colorlines Magazine.

Welcome to the AMC MagicNet!

This year we have a new wireless network at the AMC: the MagicNet! It is a Wifi network, built to provide attendees with Internet access, but also with the purpose of providing local applications and resources for exploration and collaboration.
