Radical relationship-building for radical lawyers
How can we infuse our legal work with more creativity, joy, and imagination as we support communities organizing for social change? The Movement Lawyering Network Gathering will bring radical lawyers and legal workers together for a day of skill-building to help them incorporate media, art, and technology into their practice. We will explore ways that lawyers can use tools—such as short films, design, graphic novels, and podcasts—to tell compelling client stories, democratize the law, and build deeper relationships with organizers and culture workers. Participants will walk away with new media skills and a network of legal workers practicing at the intersection of law and culture. This Network Gathering is hosted by the Detroit Justice Center, Law for Black Lives, and Movement Law Lab--organizations committed to creating powerful, innovative legal networks to support social justice movements across the country.

Call for Participation
We invite lawyers and legal workers (including law students, paralegals, legal assistants, and jailhouse lawyers) to participate in our first Movement Lawyering Network Gathering! Apply here by April 6th. We’ll select a diverse group of 60 participants from across the country. Applicants who are not selected are welcome to sign up for our Network listserv where we will share highlights from the gathering and next steps. We may be able to offer partial travel and accommodation stipends. Any questions? Email email@example.com.
Do you have a skill to share? For example, have you used media or art to simplify legal concepts? Used creative storytelling methods to build power with directly-impacted community members? Have you tried partnering with filmmakers, muralists, graphic novelists, silk screen printers, musicians, poets, performance artists or other cultural workers to create law or policy change?
